This is why God made bunnies, squirrels and deer, and provided you
with the subsonic .22 loads, salt licks, spotlights, snares and crossbows
to harvest them. This store is open all night.

Stay away from game from public parks -- these are usually loaded
with pesticides/herbicides/decaying-crack-addicts etc etc.

To buy decent meat, seek out the local 7th Day Adventist Church,
or find an Amish/Mennonite farmer or butcher shop.

Orthodox Jews and strict Moslems also do a brisk trade in well-raised,
cleanly slaughtered and handled meat, just don't expect any hog jowls.

To really make your hair stand on end, get an "edibility guide"
from your state fish & game. The one for PA is amazing. "Do not
eat more than three pounds of X from the Y river in any 12 month
period." "Species Z caught in Lakes A B and C may be eaten
if the heads and livers are carefully removed, and the flesh soaked
in three changes of water before cooking. Discard any fish with
unusual growths on its internal organs." It goes on for several pages.

"Fish with more than three eyes, small grasping appendages, or that
speak in a reedy human-like voice should be reported to the Department
of Natural Resources as soon as possible."
