Basic instructions in HOW TO DRINK BOOZE:
Woodchuck "Cocktail"
====================
1 bottle good Russian, Finnish or Polish vodka
No vodka made in the USA is suitable for drinking straight -- it's
too "sweet". (Has esters and so on.) You want the real-deal for this;
Stolichnaya, Kristal, Absolut, Kazanskaya, etc. BTW, using
Stolichnaya in a mixed drink is about as stupid as pouring
Glenfiddich inAto a glass of Coca Cola.
1 vodka glass. (A small *stemmed* glass. I believe it is called
a "tulip" glass.)
Simple zakuski, such as pickled herring, Kalamari olives,
caviar, mushrooms stuffed with crab meat, steamed shrimp or crawfish,
any kind of pickle: cucumbers, gherkins, mushrooms, "giardinera".
Also good with ceviche in sour cream. Italian antipasto.
Spanish totopos.
Russian black bread or Swedish rye hardtack (Limppa).
Chill vodka in deepfreeze until *viscous*. (overnight). Chill glass as
well.
Drink by the shot, snack on salty/oily zakuski.
NOW EAT DINNER, WITH THE PROPER WINE
====================================
Realize that champagne is a proper wine with certain foods.
Woodchuck After Dinner Drink
============================
1 large cup strong espresso with twist of lemon peel, super-sweet.
1 Bottle of Liquore Strega (This is something like Galliano, but
suited to grown-ups).
1 large liqueur glass, or small snifter.
Put room temperature Liq. Strega in snifter.
Drink alternately from coffee and Liq. Strega. Provide spring
water as for "relaxer", if desired.
If attempted in a restaurant, and they don't have Strega, find
a new restaurant.
Good after a heavy, spicy meal.
RETIRE TO SMOKING/CONVERSATION ROOM
===================================
Woodchuck Relaxer/Conversation Improver
=======================================
1 bottle decent Scotch, say Glenfiddich, at 60-75 F
1 large bowl ice, made from spring water
1 carafe of spring water
1 large glass
1 smaller glass
Fill smaller glass 1/3 of the way with Scotch.
Place one or two icecubes in larger glass, fill with water.
Resulting temperature of water should be about 45-50F.
Drink alternately from glasses, replenishing as they empty.
For variety, room temperature water may be used to dilute the
whisky, 1:1. No, this is not a "sin"; it changes the flavor of
the whisky, by altering contents of the bouquet and "mouth". A
whisky should be savored both straight and with water, but never
chilled.
If you get drunk, you're missing the point.
NOW SLEEP
=========
Woodchuck Brunch Menu
=====================
Bottle chilled champagne or Asti Spumante.
Fresh melon-like fruit
1 pack Turkish Special cigarettes.
Blini with sour cream and cherries (Small crepe-like buckwheat
pancakes -- preferably made with sourdough)
Sausage
Black french roast or Kenya coffee.
Serve in approximate order given. Best served al fresco,
preferably in an arbor.
It helps to have servants, of course. *sigh*
