HOW TO CLEAN A RIFLE AFTER FIRING CORROSIVE AMMO
================================================
When you go to the range, take with you a mixture of 50:50 household
ammonia and water, and some plain water.
When you're done shooting corrosive (mercury primed) ammo, moisten
(don't soak) a patch with the ammonia, and run it through the bore,
from the breech end. Repeat. Use the last patch to wipe the bolt
face.
Now moisten a patch with water, and run it through. Repeat.
Run a dry patch.
Run a patch moistened with your regular bore oil, wipe the bolt face.
When you get home go through a regular cleaning procedure.
Repeat the cleaning two days later.
If you forget the ammonia, substitute urine.
Semiauto shooters, don't forget the gas tube!
Old squeeze mustard (etc) plastic bottles make great ways to
transport this stuff.
