Didn't that jugged rabbit include bay leaf? >If so I apologize. I disagree. Laurel leaf makes a better rabbit stew. Repost of my bunnie stew: Bunny Stew Ingredients: 1 rabbit 1 lb. of onions 2-3 cloves of garlic 1 cup of oil 1 small tumbler of red wine 1 lb. of ripe tomatoes half a tbsp. of concentrated tomato pulp 2 cinnamon sticks and 5-6 cloves 2 laurel leaves salt, pepper, cumin Procedure: Cut the rabbit into serving portions and brown it in the oil. Pour in the wine and let it bubble. Then, add the roughly chopped onions and when they are half cooked, add the chopped tomatoes and the concentrate diluted in water, the garlic, the laurel leaves, the cinnamon, the cloves, the salt and pepper, the cumin and a little water. Cook for about an hour. (Originally, this recipe was aimed at Christian's pet bunnies, but after seeing how cute they are, the recipe now calls for wild rabbit. --But if those bunnies get any plumper, I'm sending the hounds after them.) hippyman

As for a the small tumbler, my grandmother was the one who passed on the recipe, so I never did learn exactly what a small tumbler was. I always use about 3 ounces of wine, then finish off the bottle while the rabbit stews. About 5 years ago I lived in the rural Ozarks of Missouri, in a small two bedroom cabin, about 60 miles from any real civilization. Come rabbit season, I would break out the beagles and catch dinner almost every other day. The chase was what I enjoyed. The yell of beagles running rabbit is pure mozart, and the dogs just loved the shit out of it. If I was to even look at my guns the dogs would start yelling at the top of their lungs for me to take them running. Damn I miss that hillbilly life, sometimes. hippyman
